The first taste of food for a child is that of Milk. It is a part of everyone’s regular diet. It is a very important and sacred component of the Hindu rituals. As a child, we are taught to have a glass of milk daily. It is packed with essential nutrients like Calcium and Protein. I remember during my childhood, there were always these interesting advertisements of malted chocolate drinks and energy drinks for kids, where the child preferred these powders in the milk instead of a plain one. There were many brands in India. I was a fan of Milo and Bournvita. It was then replaced by hot chocolate. While travelling in Germany I like to have my glass of hot chocolate wherever I go. Tea is the beloved beverage of my city- Mumbai. It is known for the ‘Cutting Chai’. Chai is a different sentiment. During monsoons, stranded at home, or on a while on a trip, visiting a local ‘Chai ki Tapri’ (stall), it is my favourite (I can go along, but this can be a separate topic of my blog). Turmeric milk was a must during season changes or sickness. Dryfruit milk made a guest appearance during festivals and gatherings. Coffee is a new found love for me. When in Munich, do as the Germans do. Start your day with a huge glass of Coffee.
I never liked the taste of plain warm milk. So I always associate milk with these forms. Sitting by the window or in the balcony, reading a book or perhaps listening to calm music and sipping some hot milk beverage is my favourite part of the day. It is very soothing.
I thought this when I read the article on Milk in today’s paper and immediately planned to write about this small but essential part of my life. With some new food styling tips, I grabbed my camera and took a shot of milk with all the ingredients that I love adding in it.
Happy World Milk Day!
Please let me know what is your favourite milk beverage in the comments!
